Controlled procedure guide — qualified laboratory personnel only. Select separate-source applied voltage or induced voltage as specified in the approved test plan. This guide addresses separate-source testing; induced voltage requires its own frequency and duration procedure.
- Confirm transformer identity, rating, insulation level, test winding, applicable controlled standard edition and approved voltage/duration. Do not infer test voltage from nominal voltage alone.
- Verify valid calibration, test-set capacity, protective earthing, interlocks, barriers, emergency trip, permits and personnel clearance. Isolate the transformer from all external circuits.
- Follow the approved connection drawing: join the terminals of the winding under test as required; earth the remaining windings, tank and core according to the approved procedure. Record the drawing reference.
- After authorised clearance, raise the voltage using the approved ramp; maintain the specified voltage for the specified duration. Record applied voltage, duration and observed breakdown/flashover or trip.
- Reduce voltage to zero, isolate the supply, discharge and earth the test object. Confirm safe access before changing connections.
- Repeat required winding configurations. Retain observations, instrument/certificate references and deviations. Failure or unexplained trip requires engineering review.
Use the transformer booklet and a controlled copy of the applicable IS 2026 dielectric-test requirements / IS 1180 specification as applicable. Switchgear: applicable IS/IEC 62271 parts. Confirm editions, amendments and contractual requirements with the standards custodian.
For HV evaluation enter minimum applied voltage, minimum duration and a maximum breakdown-event count of zero, each with the approved criterion reference. Automatic comparison does not verify connections or test completeness.
